Q. What are the hardware and operating system requirements for FireTools?

A. As with any powerful Windows program, FireTools will take advantage of the latest hardware technology. However, our recommendation includes a computer with a 500MHz or higher processor (CPU), 128MB of RAM or more (256MB for Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.) The operating system must be Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, with service pack 6a, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Q. Are there any special display settings required to run FireTools Software?

A. No. FireTools was programmed using standard Windows display settings. Desktop Themes or other Background Wallpaper that alter the appearance of text and/or graphics can adversely affect the way FireTools text and forms are displayed.

Q. What documentation is included with FireTools Software?

A. In addition to the FireTools Software Installation, Getting Started and Quick Reference manual shipped with FireTools, the FireTools Overview Manual, the complete USFA NFIRS 5.0 Handbook, the Quick Reference Guide and all NFIRS 5.0 forms are included with the FireTools installation. They are in Adobe Acrobat format (pdf files) and can be accessed from the FireTools Software folder on the Windows Start - Programs menu. If you don't already have Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, a free installation of Acrobat Reader is included on the FireTools Software CD.

Q. How do I enter an Exposure Fire report in the Incident Reporting System?

A. Exposure Fire reports are begun the same way as any incident report. Click on Add for a new incident. Change the Date and Incident Number to the same as the original incident. You will be given a notice that an incident with the same number already exists and asks if you want to create an Exposure report. Click on Yes to continue, No to cancel.

Q. Is there any way in the FireTools Incident Reporting System to conveniently filter reports by jurisdiction or other sorting requirements?

A. Yes. FireTools includes three 30 character Filter/Sort fields, complete with user definable pick lists, that can be used as filtering criteria for most built-in reports.

Q. How do I remove a person from the Personnel Record System?

A. Once permanent records have been entered for a person, that person's name cannot be deleted. However, to remove a person from the visible Active roster, go to that person's Master record, click on Edit and change his or her Status to the appropriate setting other than Active. If that person is to be reinstated at a later date, go to the Select Status Group menu, Select All Groups, return to Master Records and Edit that person's Status back to Active.

Q. How do I integrate third party programs for viewing pictures in FireTools?

A. A variety of programs, purchased separately, can be used to view pictures in each FireTools module and create and view drawings in the Site Record System. A list of programs known to be compatible are listed in the FireTools Software Installation, Getting Started and Quick Reference manual and in the FireTools Overview manual. The Windows operating system and FireTools must be configured differently depending upon the program(s) you already have or elect to purchase. Therefore, it is necessary that you contact FireTools Support for instructions specific to your situation.
